Lane restrictions on I-75 in Detroit tied to Warren Avenue bridge work

November 18, 2008 -- Weather permitting, contracting crews will resume work to complete the rehabilitation of the Warren Avenue overpass above I-75 in Detroit on Monday, Nov. 24. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the work on the Warren Avenue overpass was suspended this past spring when inspectors noticed deteriorated steel beams that required replacement.

"The new steel beams needed to be designed and then fabricated," said Metro Region Engineer Gregory Johnson. "The new beams arrived this month and have been erected, and now work to build the driving surface of the overpass will begin."

Scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, crews will reduce southbound I-75 to a single lane from just north of the I-94 interchange to Warren Avenue. Northbound I-75 will have two lanes open from Mack Avenue to Warren Avenue in order to complete pouring the new bridge deck. All lanes will open to traffic by 7 p.m. If inclement weather prohibits the scheduled work, crews will return the following day.

The Warren Avenue overpass construction is part of a $26 million investment to rehabilitate 24 bridges between I-375 and M-8 (Davison Freeway) in Detroit.
