Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments to Council for Labor and Economic Growth

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Council for Labor and Economic Growth

Gary Burtka of Allen Park, mayor of the city of Allen Park, is appointed to represent chief elected officials for a term expiring April 30, 2012.  He succeeds George Heartwell who has resigned.
 
Douglas Jester of East Lansing, owner and president of IT Services Corporation, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.  He succeeds Theodore Blashak whose term has expired.
 
Richard Long of Waterford, director of National CAP Program, is appointed to represent labor organizations for a term expiring April 30, 2013.  He succeeds Sharon Rivera whose term has expired.
 
Lizabeth Ardisana of Orchard Lake, CEO of ASG Renaissance, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Matthew Chambers of Portage, president/CEO of Three Rivers Health, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Fern Espino, Ph.D. of Dearborn, president/CEO of Espino Enterprises, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
John Hernandez of Lansing, state director for Telamon Corporation, is reappointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Robert Jacquart of Ironwood, owner/president of Jacquart Fabric Products, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Trenda Rusher of Ypsilanti, executive director of Washtenaw County Michigan Works!, is reappointed to represent individuals and organizations that have experience and expertise in the delivery of workforce investment activities for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Cunesha Sanders of West Bloomfield, director of Detroit Job Corps Center, is reappointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Kester So of Okemos, member of Dickinson Wright PLLC, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
Marjorie Sorge of Livonia, executive director of Detroit Regional News Hub, is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2013.
 
The Council for Labor and Economic Growth serves as the state's workforce investment board required under Section 111 of the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998.  Additionally, the council is charged with assessing trends and issues, developing strategies, and acting as an ongoing strategic advising body that encourages and stimulates innovative public and private responses to workforce challenges.  Members work to develop policies and help implement programs that shape a flexible 21st century workforce that meets the needs of Michigan's businesses and allows them to successfully compete in the global marketplace today and in the future.
 
These appointments and reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
