P2 Tools (online)

The software or Internet based tools described below may be of interest to small chemical manufacturers

BestPractices  Offers software tools for evaluating savings and effectiveness of energy efficiency measures for air compressors, motors, pumping systems, adjustable speed drives, boilers and steam systems.

Green Chemistry Expert System

The tool allows users to build a green chemical process, design a green chemical, or survey the field of green chemistry.

IAC DATABASE
Containing information from more than 7000 plant assessments, this database allows you to identify plants that are similar to yours and know what types of efficiency, waste reduction and productivity improvements were most frequently recommended.

P2 Framework Models
The P2 Framework Project offers various models to industry that may be useful in  identifying potential problem chemicals and processes early in the research and development process.

P2/FINANCE
This tool is a spreadsheet software for conducting financial evaluations of current and potential investments. It is unique among capital budgeting tools, because it expressly addresses traditional obstacles to the financial justification of pollution prevention (P2) investments.

PBT Profiler –
The tool estimates the environmental persistence, bioconcentration potential, and aquatic toxicity characteristics for organic chemicals where no such data exists.   The PBT Profiler is intended to aid users by incorporating P2 principles in the design, development, and selection of chemicals.

Program for Assisting the Replacement of Industrial Solvents (PARIS II)
A software tool that can design new solvents and identify "green" replacements for solvents currently in use.  The user needs to know only the composition of the solvent to be replaced in order to run the program.

US EPA Chemical Registry System
This database provides a comprehensive index of regulatory information for every chemical substance the US EPA regulates.  The system allows one to quickly determine if a chemical is regulated, view the regulatory lists that the chemical is on, and easily check, using a matrix display, which environmental laws the chemical is covered under.
