Public Notice of Pending Section 401 Certification for Ontonagon Harbor

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to issue a Section 401 Water Quality Certification (Certification) under Section 401(a) of the federal Clean Water Act to the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).  The USACE intends to conduct dredging operations in the federal navigation channel in Ontonagon Harbor, Ontonagon County, Michigan, as part of an on-going navigational maintenance project.  This Certification would expire on April 10, 2013.  The purpose of the Certification is to assure that the proposed dredging and the beach application of dredged materials west of Ontonagon Harbor (T25N, R40W, S25) will comply with Michigan's Water Quality Standards.  Copies of the draft Certification may be obtained from Rosalie Mascho, Water Bureau, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, P.O.
